The beehives donated by the NTFP Foundation are distributed to various families keen to start with keeping meliponines bees. A starter kit contains 3 bee-hives. When they become strong, there is a way to split the colonies into two and therefore doubling the bee-hives. It usually takes about two years to get 10 colonies out of the starter kit of three bee-hives. Some meliponine keepers already hold more than 100 bee-hives and are able to produce over 300 liters of honey, worth over 6’000 USD! Most of the bee-keepers invest in their hives, and we provide them material and support.
